Pakistan is now on the verge of being a water-scarce country. Water scarcity is generally defined as per capita availability of less than 1000 cubic metres.

Data from various sources suggests that almost 90% of the freshwater supply in Pakistan is used by the agriculture sector. The agriculture sector uses almost all the water available through flood irrigation which is known to be the least efficient method of irrigation.
